Ephesians 4:1-3

Paul, being a “prisoner of the Lord” (Ephesians 4:1, NKJV), refers to the willingness of a bondservant, or the desire of the servant to please his Lord and master because his Lord and master has treated him fairly. If we believe in what Paul has been teaching us in Ephesians 1-3, we should be ready now to take on our duties in Christ (our calling from God in our salvation through Christ Jesus). Whatever the Lord has put on each or our hearts, we should pursue it with lowliness, gentleness, and longsuffering, working together with each other in love, remembering that God’s Holy Spirit lives in us as Christians, and whatever our calling, we should be the peacemakers.

This is a command to follow our calling in the Lord in the proper fashion.

Take a moment today and consider what lowliness, gentleness, longsuffering, bearing in love, and what endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace means to you. We all have different callings from the Lord; so don’t try to compare yourself to someone else in their calling from God. Simply spend some time talking to Jesus about what He desires of you and get ready to be amazed at what He will do in your life – in Christ.

Dear Lord,

I pray today that You will help us all to see and understand what You are calling each of us to be for You. Help us to put into practice in our lives; lowliness, gentleness, longsuffering, bearing in love, and to endeavor in keeping the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
