Ephesians 4:20-24
In Ephesians 4:20-24 we learn that if we accept Christ and “put on the new man in Christ” we are making a choice to follow the ways in which He teaches us. As we put off the “old man” we are leaving behind the things which reflect our old sinful nature and we are making a choice to follow the teachings of Jesus.
This is a promise that we can be renewed in the spirit of our mind, putting off the old sinful way, and putting on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:20-24).
The Apostle Paul declares in Colossians 1:29 (NKJV), “To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” This should be our focus on Christ Jesus as well, that we put off the old man and the ways of this world that we lived in before we dedicated our lives to following Jesus, and put on the new man–the new life that we are seeking when we ask Jesus to forgive our sins and save us from eternal condemnation. Romans 6:6 states, “knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.” We are taught in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” We now have a new life in Christ—let’s live it!
Dear Lord,
Thank You, LORD, for sending Your Son to not only pay our debt to sin, but also to teach us the ways in which we should conduct ourselves as Christians–that we can begin a new life of forgiveness in Christ. Open our eyes Lord to putting on the new man in Christ as we seek to develop and grow our relationship with You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
